Having joined a monastery at a very young age, St. Thérèse of Lisieux died of tuberculosis aged just 24, the majority of her life having been spent between four walls. Nevertheless, such was her passion for the faith, so intense were the things she wrote, her doubts, her search for God, that she became Patron Saint of missionaries. One of her greatest unfulfilled wishes was to go on a mission to Indochina. Already suffering from her illness, she helped the other missionaries prepare for their journey and prayed for them continuously. Thérèse still teaches us today that to stay close to our missionaries we need not necessarily be with them physically: prayers, when they come from the heart, cross all boundaries.
